The Polar Bear Sandwich

Ordering off the menu at Star Island‘s Snack Bar is a tricky situation. Usually you have to know someone and your cousin Mickey Blue Eyes doesn’t count on this 47 acre plot of rocks and seagulls.

So we ventured one day to order the Polar Bear Sandwich which has its origin story covered in a blanket of dust in the attic of Star Island’s Vaughn Cottage Museum and Library.

Some say the Polar Bear Sandwich started after a group of people tried to come up with a breakfast sandwich that involved salt and vinegar chips. But we faintly remember an episode of Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me… Not that the radio show has anything to do with this story, we just faintly remember it.

Fortunately for us, we were able to retrieve the recipe for the Polar Bear Sandwich from the snack bar this summer and we share it with you now from our sister publication’s (Gossiport Magazine) first printing:The Polar Bear Sandwich Recipe

Attention: No Polar Bears were harmed in the writing of this post.
